Ever since Adam walked with God
In the cool of the evening -
Hand in hand perhaps;
Human hearts have yearned to know Him
As that intimate friend -
Holding them closely.
So He came again, not to walk,
But to be held in our arms -
Helpless and quiet;
Showing us the way to know Him
by allowing our lips to
Kiss the Face of God.

Note: A few years ago my husband wrote this poem for a Christmas card of the Madonna and Child titled 'Kissing the Face of God'. As I think on the Incarnation of God become man, one can only marvel at such Divine Love, becoming an infant born in poverty in a remote cave in Bethlehem.
